I used to think it was wise to show novices masterpieces, or at least
GoodCode. Over time I changed my mind. I decided novices couldn't appreciate the goodness unless they could internalize it. The internalization seems to require understanding why code/design is good, which requires muddling through on one's own. The quote about "good design comes from experience, experience comes from bad design".Do artists muddle through before looking at masterpieces? My young children do, is there a lesson there?
