I would like to see more creative use of Flash movies, java applets and plug-ins to express aesthetic pleasure rather than just the commercial or barely interactive forms you often encounter on some sites. I have been creating some presentations with SMIL (which is the web technology behind Daisy, permitting accessible digital talking books), and it's a lot of fun.
A project I am initiating here in the UK with Nesta is going to use Squeak to create a project space where you can work on layering 3D rendered artwork with hand drawn artwork, taking a conceptual starting point given by Olafur Eliasson, the sculptor. This is that to work from the outside in, to always be conscious of your perspective as viewer and user of the art, is the most valuable. Since trust and social interaction will be created through the shared use of programming skills, the art will be in flux, but will be better for it. I am very interested in how this unstable media will allow emotional responses to be generated by students, once the play gives way to sustained work. I am interested in the work of the Institute of Unstable Media in the Netherlands, too http://www.v2.nl
I won't be able to make it to Extravagaria, but have a great time!
