An art exhibition held in 1863 for works that had been rejected from the official Paris Salon. Emperor Napoleon III ordered the special exhibition to answer protests over the number of rejected works.
Paintings by Edouard Manet and James !McNeill Whistler were among those shown.
the OOPSLA 2001 IntruigingTechnologies session functioned as a SalonDesRefuses.
-- JamesKjxHere's one concrete plan:
CHI etc short papers are 4 pages. The catch here is that ShortPapers need to be long enough that people will actually submit them. Currently everyone rejected from OOPSLA is invited to submit a poster, but only a small percentage do. One reason I think is that posters are seen as completely without prestige - academically or elsewhere. Increasing the prestige of a short paper section could encourage more
insider academics and researchers to attend - even without a paper in the 'main' programmeWhy have the essays as "next 30 submissions"? Why not threat them as first rate and different? mdv
